Fruits are very healthy and nutritious. You get the most health benefits from fruits when you eat them fresh. You'll find that fruits are low in fat and cholesterol so they are great for everyone, especially those who want to maintain a healthy balance diet. Most fruits also contain a lot of water and can help act as cleansers in your body. Some fruits are also known to be energy boosters so you may find people eating them just before they perform. The fructose sweetness of a juicy pineapple was one of Christopher Columbus` lesser known yet most delicious discoveries. On a voyage to the Caribbean in 1493, he and his men were the first outside the Americas to savour this fruit, then known by its Indian name, nana, which meant the finest fruit. They brought it back to Europe, where it instantly was adored. The English, apparently seeing a resemblance to pine cones, apples or both, gave it the name we use.The fibrous flesh of pineapple is yellow in colour and has a vibrant tropical flavour that balances the tastes of sweet and tart. The area closer to the base of the fruit has more sugar content and therefore a sweeter taste and more tender texture. The fruit itself it not one fruit but a fusion of some 100 separate thorny flowers known as ''eyes.'' Being packed with essential vitamins, pineapples can be sliced or juiced depending on your choice.
